What is post-construction cleaning

Post-construction cleaning is the clean that happens after the trades leave and before anyone moves in. Construction dust is not ordinary dust — it is fine, it is everywhere, and it settles back down twice after you think you have got it. A space that has been swept is not a space that is ready to open.

The job is different from routine cleaning in scope and in sequence. It takes more passes, it happens in a specific order, and it is finished when the room can be photographed rather than when the floor is clear.

What are the phases of construction cleanup

Construction cleanup is usually talked about in three passes, and the difference between them is mostly about how much of the trade work is genuinely done.

The rough clean happens while work is still going on — debris cleared out of the way, floors kept passable, the site kept workable for the next trade. The main clean happens once construction is finished: this is the real dust-out, top to bottom, and it is the largest of the three. The final detail happens last, after the punch list and after anything that got marked in the meantime — the pass that catches fingerprints on new paint and the smudge on the glass nobody saw until the light changed.

Not every job needs all three. A small fit-out often needs one thorough clean and a light detail before handover. Which passes your job needs is worked out on site, not assumed.

When should post-construction cleaning be scheduled

Book it against the trade schedule, not the calendar. The main clean should land after the last dust-producing trade is genuinely finished — after sanding, after cutting, after the ceiling work. Cleaning before that is cleaning twice, and you will pay for both.

The other thing worth knowing early is that construction schedules move. Tell us the target date and the trade that goes last, and we will hold the window and re-set it with you when the job slides, which it usually does. That is normal and it is easier to plan for than to be surprised by.

Square footage matters less than the finishes, how many passes the space needs and how much of the site the trades cleared themselves. The walkthrough is free and it is the only way to quote this honestly.

Can you clean while trades are still working

A rough clean during construction is possible and is sometimes the right call on a long job — keeping floors passable and debris out of the next trade's way. It is scoped separately from the main clean, because it is a different job with a different outcome. It does not replace the dust-out at the end.

Do you clean new commercial fit-outs and renovations

New fit-outs, tenant improvements and renovations are the most common version of this work — a suite, a storefront or a floor being turned over to a new occupant. The scope is the same as a new build at smaller scale, and it usually runs to a handover date that cannot move.
